Jonesboro hosts grand opening of dog park

JONESBORO, Arkansas (KAIT) – The City of Jonesboro will host a grand opening celebration for its Bark Park on Tuesday, August 13th at 11 a.m.

After construction work on the dog park was interrupted due to weather-related setbacks, the opening is now imminent.

The name “Bark Park” came to the city’s attention after it received over 1,000 votes on a public Facebook post.

Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver said this is a park where you can relax and enjoy nature with your dogs.

“When you’re in this area, you’ll see that you can take your family for a walk,” said Mayor Copenaver. “Whether you’re walking with strollers, bikes, or just walking your dogs, you can come here and relax and probably visit one of the nicest dog parks in Northeast Arkansas.”

He also said that you can bring your dogs, regardless of their size.

“It’s about 2,800 square feet and it’s divided into several areas. Some for larger dogs, some for smaller dogs. We’ve fenced it in. We also have facilities that the dogs can use while they’re running around. Water hydrants and all kinds of activities,” Copenhaver said.

Bark Park is located along the connecting route through all of Jonesboro.

The park includes a parking lot and a shady area for resting.

The grand opening will take place at 11 a.m. at 408 Parkview Street.
