Jones College celebrates 100th home game at Bobcat Stadium

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) – When Jones College opens the 2024 football season on August 29, it will be the program’s 100th game in the history of Sim Cooley Field/Bobcat Stadium.

To commemorate the event, the Jones College Athletic Department is hosting a “100 for 100” fundraiser.

Jones College is asking supporters to donate $100 to the Sim Cooley Support Fund, which will help the Bobcats maintain their home turf.

“When you say Sim Cooley, you know it’s Jones College football,” said Kevin Maloney, JC’s assistant athletic director. “It’s at the Howard Sports Complex. We’re very fortunate to have the support of these guys.”

Also on the JC athletics fall schedule: the induction of Sim Cooley’s son, Fred Cooley, into the Jones College Athletics Hall of Fame.

Sim Cooley was a member of the inaugural class of 2007

Fred Cooley, twice selected by the University of Southern Mississippi in the Major League Baseball amateur draft, played for the Golden Eagles from 1987 to 1989.

Fred Cooley, who was inducted into USM’s M-Club in 1996, still holds the Golden Eagles’ record for most home runs in a season (23) and ranks second for most runs batted in in a season. He was USM’s leading home run player in 1988 and 1989 and still ranks in the top five in RBIs and top six in home runs in his career.
