Joe Burrow: We’re not a championship-caliber team right now

Despite 392 yards and five touchdown passes from quarterback Joe Burrow, the Bengals lost 41-38 to the Ravens in overtime.

Cincinnati is now 1-4, with the team’s only win coming last week over the Panthers. That’s not a recipe for a successful season, let alone a championship year – something quarterback Joe Burrow acknowledged in his postgame press conference.

“We’re not a championship-caliber team right now. That’s not usBurrow said. “I like to think that as the season progresses we will come back and improve to get to this point, but at the moment that is not the case and we need to get better.”

Burrow said he wasn’t in disbelief that the Bengals were off to such a poor start.

“I know exactly where we are at 1-4,” Burrow said. “We don’t want to try to win it at the end of the game. (I’m) definitely not a disbeliever. I know exactly what’s happening.”

Burrow added that the Bengals have already had some “tough conversations” internally.

“I think our coaches are handling it the right way,” Burrow said. “And whenever you’re between 1 and 4 – whenever you’re in a difficult situation – there’s going to be difficult conversations that the boys aren’t going to like. These discussions were held. That’s why I’m happy with the way we’re going about it.

“Of course we have to win more. It’s no secret, but I think people are handling it the right way.”
