Joan crowns a ball king

play

The honeymoon of the “Golden Bachelorette” is over – without wanting to offend the still radiant first Bachelorette from last year, Joan Vassos.

While TV viewers were still basking in the glow of last week’s joyous first episode of “Golden Bachelorette,” in which 24 contestants descended on the Bachelor Mansion to vie for Vassos, 61, disturbing news from the real world emerged Friday. Legal documents surfaced revealing a restraining order against contestant Gil Ramirez, 60, who had been accusing him of emotional harassment since May. The restraining order was lifted following a hearing in July due to “lack of prosecution,” court documents show.

The show’s producers “further cut” Ramirez’s “already limited screen time” after learning of the lawsuit, which came between background checks and the filming of “Golden Bachelorette” over the summer, a person familiar with the situation said Friday but was not authorized to speak publicly about it.

However, there are limits to how much more can be done with the already limited screen time. Ramirez at least appears in episode 2 on Wednesday, talks to Vassos and on camera about his life story before receiving a rose from Joan. He is not a serious candidate.

Here’s what else happened on Wednesday’s Golden Bachelorette.

Taylor Dayne is attending the Golden Bachelorette prom, but who is the king?

The Golden Bachelorette Prom is a festive, nostalgic, and perfectly tasteless tuxedo-wearing event for a small group of the Bachelor House. Those not wearing a ruffled shirt aren’t overly fazed. Many take a luxurious nap, literally.

Taylor Dayne is a prescient choice for the prom artist. Jordan, a 61-year-old Chicago sales manager, reveals to Joan that he went on a date with the “Tell It To My Heart” singer five years ago. Jordan says Dayne remembered the date when they met off camera. Where’s the Golden Bachelorette camera when you need it?

We catch Mark, 57, jazzing up the punch, dancing to varying degrees and showing the emotional side of prom. After bravely busting out a few moves, Charles L., 66, sits on the glitter-strewn bleachers thinking about his late wife, which he later emotionally discusses with Joan, who lost her longtime husband. Charles later grabs a rose. But Jonathan, 61, rules prom night, and not just with his daring shirtless tuxedo and dance routine. The shipping consultant from Oakland, Iowa, talks about being the only student of color at his Catholic high school and how his date ditched him a week before prom. Joan wisely gives Jonathan the crown of prom king and the big contender an obvious rose.

Insurance executive Chock, 60, wows Joan on a one-on-one date at Disneyland, which was a great advertisement for the theme park owned by ABC’s parent company, the Walt Disney Company, and Dan, 64, earns a rose and a date after winning the talent show.

Is the “Bachelor House” snoring about the new guacamole scandal?

The Golden Bachelor women hilariously discussed the gas-inducing effects of the guacamole drink in the Bachelor House last year. Snoring is becoming the latest scandal in the Golden Bachelorette house – allegedly it’s Gregg’s fault. The 64-year-old flip-flop-wearing retired university vice president shares a room with French-born, 69-year-old Chicagoan Pascal, who makes it clear that he sleeps proudly and naturally, although he needs absolute silence. He’s not happy about Gregg’s nightly noise.

“It was a big shock when I was woken up by a naked Frenchman hitting me,” Gregg admits on camera, claiming he knew nothing about the snoring in his sleep. But the evidence is pretty damning. Since both of them got Joan roses, it could continue like this.

Update on Mark Anderson amid the ongoing “Hot Dad” hype

Mark Anderson keeps winning the early rounds of the Golden Bachelorette without even trying (and without dancing at the prom). But damn, the 57-year-old “Hot Dad” of the Internet is really on point in his blue prom tux. The father of Bachelor star Kelsey Anderson makes the most of his one-on-one time with Joan by casually asking her for a kiss in German, a scene that opens the show and is later expanded upon. Joan agrees in English. The resulting kiss and more kisses are the biggest smooch of the season so far.

Cannonball Jack did it his way, but somehow went home. Who else went?

Oh, Jack! He’s gone WAY too soon. The highly-watchable 68-year-old caterer from Chicago’s South Side entered the house croaking “My Way” and lived out Sinatra’s immortal words in his brief stint, with endless, joyful cannonballs in the pool. You could do a BBQ episode about Jack, denied a spot behind the grill, still making his opinion known – “I like my burgers mooing” and “The burgers are ready now, just by the way.”

Maybe it was the two-handed sock puppet act at the talent show that proved Jack was too much of a character for Joan. He leaves the show in style and with his mischievous smile, receiving enthusiastic applause from the rest of the crew. Jack pauses for one last rendition of “My Way” on his way out, and roseless Christopher, 64, of West Babylon, New York, joins in on his song. Priceless.

Here’s who else didn’t receive Joan roses and left the show:

Bob, 66, chiropractor from Marina Del Rey, California

Michael, 65, a retired bank CEO from Denver, North Carolina
