Jenn Tran jokes: “I hate men right now” after split from Devin Strader (exclusive)

Jenn Tran shifts her focus from the rose ceremony to the ballroom.

On Wednesday, September 4, Tran was announced as part of the cast of Dancing with the stars Season 33. The season 21 Bachelorette tells PEOPLE she’s “excited” to jump right in — but given the dance competition show’s history of showmanship, she has no expectations for her own romance on the dance floor.

“I’m still in a healing process,” she says, before joking: “Right now I hate men, so…”

Her partner, Sasha Farber, is the only exception to this rule. “Except you,” she tells him. “I hate all men except you.”

The resident has just experienced a heartbreaking end to her season. The Bachelorette. During the season finale on September 3, fans learned that she and Devin Strader got engaged in Hawaii in May, but broke up just weeks before the finale aired.

Train said in “After the Final Rose” that “things were just different” and she felt Strader “went back on all the promises he had made to me.” In August, he called her and “broke off the engagement” and told her “he didn’t love me anymore.”

“It’s a healing process, but right now I’m just so excited about this new opportunity and being able to throw myself into something different, something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Tran says she is “thrilled” at the DWTS “Family” – and she is especially happy with her partner.

“Honestly, I’m just so excited. He’s been great so far,” she says of Farber, 40. “I think we have a really good relationship, so I’m excited.”

However, she still has a lot to learn. “I took a dance class in college and we’ll see how it goes. I’ve always wanted to learn.”
