Jeff Glor is leaving CBS News amid layoffs at Paramount

Jeff Glor, who had a unique career at CBS News that included leading the “CBS Evening News” during a difficult period and then revitalizing the network’s Saturday morning newscast, is leaving the news division, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Glor, who has co-hosted the Saturday morning show since 2019, will be leaving amid a significant wave of layoffs at parent company Paramount Global, CBS’ parent company.

CBS News declined to make executives available for comment. News of Glor’s departure was previously reported on social media by Puck News.

Glor joined CBS News in 2007 after spending four years as a weekend evening news anchor and weekday reporter for Boston’s WHDH. Within two years, he was tapped for prominent roles including lead anchor on the streaming service once known as CBSN; a two-year stint as Saturday anchor of the “CBS Evening News”; and a four-year stint as the show’s Sunday host. He also hosted a previous incarnation of CBS News’ morning show “The Early Show” in 2011. He also worked for “60 Minutes Sports,” an extension of the famous newsmagazine that aired on Showtime.

Glor anchored the “CBS Evening News” in 2017 after previous full-time anchor Scott Pelley left. During his time at the desk of that show, he brought back the legendary “Eye on America” segment and broadcast it live from France’s Élysée Palace, a first for an American broadcaster. During his final seconds on the evening newscast in 2019, he gave up the screen to a running list of dozens of staffers who helped put the show together each night. “Their working hours are long and often unpredictable. Her family and friends are always patient. “I am impressed every day by their commitment to writing the first draft of history and telling America’s story,” Glor told viewers. “I am impressed by her grace. I thank them – and you. We’ll see each other soon.”

However, he may have gained the most traction as co-host of the Saturday Morning Program, a show that featured extensive coverage of food, music and travel. During Glor’s time on the show alongside Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, at one point in 2021 the Saturday broadcast garnered more viewers than the Saturday broadcast of “Today” – the first time she achieved this feat since her debut in 2012.

Glor “keeps turning,” Miller said during an interview in 2021. “I will always go back to Winston Churchill. One of my favorite quotes is: “Success is not final.” Failure is not fatal. It’s the courage to keep going that counts.’”
