JD Vance: Why Taylor Swift used Benjamin Button to support Kamala Harris | World News

There is a Hindi proverb that goes:

The aaye durust aaye

which means “better late than never.” For a long time, many expected Taylor Swift to support the Democrats. This was predicted even before Kamala Harris became the presidential candidate. Some in the MAGA crowd believed that the Kansas City Chiefs would defeat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime during Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024 and that Taylor Swift would then not only get engaged to Chiefs player Travis Kelce but also announce her support for Biden-Harris.
The Chiefs won in overtime, but there was no matchup or endorsement of Biden. Much has changed since then: Biden dropped out 75 days earlier and Harris became the Democratic nominee. Swift’s endorsement of Harris did not come as quickly.
Previous speculation suggested that Swift had “secretly” endorsed Harris in an Instagram post, but it turned out that it was just a silhouette of her backup dancer. There were also rumors that she would perform at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), but that never materialized either.

Amidst all of this, a group emerged calling themselves “Swifties for Trump,” though most of their posts appeared to be AI-generated. Trump even shared an AI-generated image of Taylor Swift supposedly supporting him, adding, “I accept.” While it wasn’t quite the deepfake that mainstream media was calling it, it was, as Tim Walz put it, “weird.” At the same time, another group, “Swifties4Kamala,” began organizing events in support of Harris.
At one of these events, legendary singer Carole King performed a short version of “Shake It Off,” her favorite Swift song, and offered tips for door-to-door campaigning, drawing on her years of political activism experience. Senator Elizabeth Warren praised the attendees, saying, “They are resilient and know how to stand up to bullies. That’s what Harris’ campaign is about – standing up to bullies like Donald Trump.” Other speakers included Representative Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania, Representative Becca Balint of Vermont, and North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Anderson Clayton.
Swift’s long-awaited endorsement finally came in the evening after a debate in the form of a message that could only be understood as a sharp rebuke of Trump and MAGA supporters.

Meow times

After watching the debate, Swift explained that a fake AI version of her support for Donald Trump had led her to voice her opinion. She wrote, “This made me realize that as a voter, I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election. The easiest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
She continued, “I’ve done my research and made my choice. Your research is entirely yours, and the choice is yours. I want to say to first-time voters in particular: remember you have to be registered to vote! I also find it much easier to vote early. In my story, I’ll post links to registration options and dates and information on early voting.”

She concluded, “I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I need a warrior to represent. I think she is a calm, gifted leader and believe we can accomplish so much more in this country when we are led by calm, not chaos. I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of her running mate @timwalz, who has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights to their own bodies for decades.”
The sharpest dig came when she called herself a “childless cat lady,” a clear response to JD Vancewho had criticized single, childless women, a political position that MAGA is now reinforcing.

Quick reprimand for Vance

JD Vance learned the hard way that “hell hath no fury like a Swiftie scorned” when his past comments about “childless cat ladies” resurfaced after Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris. In July 2021, Vance appeared on Fox News and defended a speech he gave at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, where he criticized prominent Democratic leaders for being part of the “childless left” and argued that they had “no physical commitment to the future of this country.”
Vance claimed, “Our country is effectively run by Democrats and corporate oligarchs, many of whom are childless cat ladies. They are unhappy with their own lives and choices and want the rest of the country to be miserable too. Just look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg and AOC – the entire future of the Democrats is in the hands of people without children. How can it make sense that we are entrusting the country to people who have no direct stake in it?”
He further suggested that a “healthy ruling class” should give priority to electing people with children, who he believed would have a greater personal interest in the country’s future.
Swift’s fans, commonly known as Swifties, were quick to respond to Vance’s remarks. One Twitter user noted, “Taylor Swift is a self-made billionaire who has donated in every city of her tour. JD Vance started a charity that hasn’t helped a single drug addict.” Another confidently added, “Can’t wait for the fallout from JD’s ‘cat lady’ comments. Oh, they’re coming.” A third noted, “Taylor Swift would destroy JD Vance on the debate floor.”

The story of Benjamin Button

Taylor first met Benjamin on the set of the “ME!” music video and was immediately taken with him. The cat’s owner described Benjamin as a “purr box” due to his constant purring, and after forming a bond with him, Taylor asked if she could adopt him. The owner confirmed that Benjamin was available, and Taylor knew she wanted to take him home. Brendon Urie was equally smitten with Benjamin, and throughout the shoot, Taylor expressed how much she adored the kitten, often reflecting on how the video marked the first moment they met.

Cats and dogs choice

One rumor spread by the MAGA clique includes claims that Haitian immigrants eat pets. This false narrative, amplified by industrial AI-generated memes, appears to have originated in the case of a woman who was arrested for allegedly killing and eating a cat. The controversy began after right-wing social media users seized on the arrest of 27-year-old Allexis Telia Ferrell, who was charged with animal cruelty. The charges included animal injury, animal welfare violations, and disorderly conduct. The lie was also repeated by Trump during the debate.
Ferrell reportedly killed a cat on August 16 by stepping on its head and then eating it in front of several witnesses, Fox News reported. The incident occurred in Canton, Ohio, where police confirmed her arrest. Neighbors in a residential area on 13th Street SE were horrified by the act.
Although Ferrell has lived in the U.S. for years, some conservative social media accounts were quick to link the incident to immigration, particularly from Haiti. One post said, “If you let a third world country into your country, you become a third world country yourself. Close the border and save our cats.” Another post said, “If you like ducks or cats, Trump is your only choice in November. Otherwise, they’re dinner for Kamala’s illegal Haitians.”
Local law enforcement, however, refuted the allegations. Springfield police said Monday they had not received any reports of pets being stolen or eaten and stressed that the social media posts did not reflect any ongoing concerns. “It’s not on our radar right now,” police said in response to the rumors circulating online.
