Japanese discounter Daiso opens in Tucson this week

Hundreds of eager Tucson shoppers are expected next weekend when popular Japanese convenience store Daiso opens its first local location.

Daiso will hold a grand opening event on Saturday, August 31, at Ventana Village Shopping Center, 6884 E. Sunrise Drive, in the 10,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Tuesday Morning.

The global chain carries items such as home decor, beauty products, school supplies and snacks.

It has seven locations in Arizona.

A company spokesman said about 300 customers are expected at the opening of the Tucson store.

The first 100 customers to spend $30 or more during opening weekend will receive a Daiso gift bag.

“We are thrilled to open our store in Ventana Village,” said Jack Williams, Chief Retail Operations Officer at Daiso USA. “We are excited to bring an exceptional shopping experience to the vibrant Tucson community and look forward to serving our customers with the utmost care and dedication.”

Daiso opens at 9am and there is a countdown before the doors are unlocked.

The store’s regular opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
