Janitor allegedly stole Rolex watches from travelers at Miami International Airport – NBC 6 South Florida

A janitor was arrested after police say he stole a pair of expensive Rolex watches from a traveler at Miami International Airport.

According to records, Alberto Rabanal, 57, was arrested on Monday on two counts of grand theft.

According to a police report, the victim arrived at MIA on August 22 on a flight from Lisbon, Portugal.

He cleared customs and was on the second level of Terminal J waiting for a ride when someone took his duty-free bag, which he had left unattended for a short time, the report said.

The bag contained two Rolex watches valued at around $60,000.

Surveillance video showed a cleaning company employee approaching the bag and looking inside.

He was seen taking off a sweater before finding a black case containing the two Rolex watches. He then took the watches out of the bag and put the sweater back in

He then put the duty-free bag in a normal garbage bag and threw it in a garbage can, the report says.

The employee in the video was later identified as Rabanal, the report said.

Investigators went to Rabanal’s house, where he directed them to the clocks that were on his dresser, the report said.

He confessed to the theft, was arrested and taken to prison.

On Tuesday, Rabanal was granted bail of $7,500 in court and assigned a public defender.
