Jalen Brunson talks about losing Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo

The Knicks’ blockbuster trade for Karl-Anthony Towns has bittersweet feelings for star point guard Jalen Brunson.

Brunson reflected Monday on the departures of All-Star Julius Randle and his close friend Donte DiVincenzo, both of whom are heading to the Timberwolves as part of the deal.

“That was definitely tough. Grateful that Julius welcomed me here with open arms. “That news was crazy,” Brunson said during the Knicks’ media day. “I’m really grateful for them and their friendships and everything they’ve brought to this team. I’m really grateful that I was able to build a relationship with Julius. The memories we shared were really fun.

“Donte, he was best man at my wedding. That should tell you everything you need to know about our relationship. Love him more than anything.”

The Knicks are also sending DaQuan Jeffries and a lottery-protected first-round pick from the Pistons to Minnesota as part of the trade, which was not official as of Monday morning.

Brunson and Randle played together for two seasons, while Brunson, DiVincenzo, Josh Hart and new Knick Mikal Bridges all played together at Villanova.
