Ja Morant was injured in the Memphis Grizzlies’ preseason win over the Mavs

Memphis Grizzlies fans breathed a collective sigh of relief when Ja Morant returned to action in Monday’s preseason game against the Dallas Mavericks late in the second quarter after missing five minutes of play with an ankle injury.

Morant quickly scored seven more points before finally ending the game early in the third quarter after limping off the court again.

An injury to the Grizzlies’ star point guard limited spectators from seeing much of the already short-handed new lineup, which is without the injured Jaren Jackson Jr., but the bench was able to step up with a solid performance.

Memphis defeated the Mavs 121-116 at the American Airlines Center.

Brandon Clarke led the Grizzlies with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Morant finished the game with 13 points and three assists.

Dallas played without Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson, among others. All Grizzlies players who had no injuries were available.

Zach Edey had six points and seven rebounds in his debut. He also had a block but had to deal with foul trouble.

The Grizzlies get two days off before hosting their home opener against the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday (7 p.m. CT).
