“It’s good to play against your teammates”

The New Orleans Saints visit Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night. The team features several players who played for the Kansas City Chiefs and contributed to Super Bowl titles.

Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones told reporters Friday that he will face several former Chiefs who now play for the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.

“Yeah, we have what? (Saints LB) Willie Gay, TK (Saints DE Tanoh Kpassagnon), (Saints S) Tyrann (Mathieu), (Saints DT) Khalen Saunders – I spoke to him (Saints DT Khalen Saunders) last night. I’m going to call him today to see if he can tell me if he’s on the offensive. (He) probably won’t, but it’s good, man (laughter),” Jones said. “It’s nice to play against the players you once played with and achieved so much with. However, it is also a challenge. We want to come in here and make sure we leave with a win. It’s exciting, we’re looking forward to it and maybe we can talk after the game.”

Jones loves all of his former teammates, but singles out Khalen Saunders for shaping his life off the field.

“You know that’s my guy (Saunders), that’s my guy,” Jones said. “We became very close during the time he was here. I always went to his house. (I) Still call his mom, mom. She had a very friendly relationship. That’s my type. That’s my type. I wish him much success on his journey in this league. And I know when we play on Monday he will be (the) opponent.”

Saunders played for the Chiefs from 2019 to 2022 and won two Super Bowls alongside Jones on the defensive line.
