Iowa Hawkeyes QB weighs in on offensive struggles against Ohio State

The Iowa Hawkeyes entered their matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes hoping to pull off a big upset. Unfortunately, that wasn’t nearly the case when all was said and done.

In the end, Iowa lost the game with a final score of 35-7.

Cade McNamara had another bad game. He couldn’t move the football and that led to a sputtering offense and a lack of scoring. Ohio State clearly went into the game with the goal of not letting star running back Kaleb Johnson beat them.

He ended up completing 14 of his 20 pass attempts for 98 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception.

After the tough offensive effort, McNamara spoke up. He revealed one major thing that led to the blowout loss.

“Momentum is a big thing in football. And once you lose momentum, it’s very difficult, especially against a team with a good offense and such a good defense.”

Head coach Kirk Ferentz was asked about the quarterback situation and possible changes. He made it very clear that he was not leaving McNamara.

“We evaluate every position week by week. But we feel good. I think Cade is really improving. The ball losses today are kind of weird, but he seems to be feeling more comfortable. His timing seems better.

This season, McNamara has completed 63.9 percent of his pass attempts for 686 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He just couldn’t put up good numbers.

That being said, the Hawkeyes have something to figure out. Ferentz believes McNamara is improving but has not appeared on the field. If things continue like this, you will have to seriously consider moving.

It won’t work to continue this season the way things have been going so far. They need a legitimate passing game and aren’t getting it.

Hopefully McNamara can bounce back with a strong performance this week at home against the Washington Huskies.
