iOS 18.1 iPhone 16 Apple Intelligence Release: Report Sets Exact Date

If you’ve never heard of Apple Intelligence, then where have you been hiding? The next big thing for iPhone (and iPad and Mac) is just around the corner and it’s going to change the way you use your device. As for the iPhone, it will work on all new releases, so the iPhone 16 series as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Here’s when it’s coming: Monday, October 28th.

That’s what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in his latest Power On newsletter, which says the very last Monday in October is the date we should put on our calendars.

Well, that’s about three weeks away. That will disappoint some who may have hoped that the promise of an October debut for the first of Apple’s much-touted AI features might come earlier this month.

But when a beta version that was expected in the last few days did not appear, they caused a stir. Nevertheless, it was thought at the time that we would see the new software in mid-October.

So what has changed? Gurman says: “I can be a little more specific about when in the month it should arrive: Monday, October 28th. That means new iPhone buyers will have to wait a few more weeks to get their hands on the most hyped component of their device. I’m told Apple is taking its time with the rollout to ensure major bugs are addressed and all new traffic can be supported on its AI cloud servers.”

When the time comes, it won’t be the whole shebang. Features like writing improvement guides, alert summaries, email chains, and more come first, but only for US English users. This means that your device settings must be set to US English as the language and Siri must also be set to US English. Apple removed the restriction that insisted that your region also be set to “United States,” not least because it interfered with the measurement unit settings.

Additional English versions, such as New Zealand, Australian and (hurrah) British English, will be available in December. Then more features will be added, such as integration with ChatGPT and a way to create customized emojis (Apple calls these Genmoji). New Siri upgrades will follow in the spring.

The countdown is running.
