Indiana school board and superintendent say there is no agreement regarding River Valley Steam Academy.

At Monday night’s meeting, the Indiana School Board and Superintendent Robert Heinrich said there was no agreement to send Indiana students to River Valley STEAM Academy.

River Valley initially approached the Indiana School District with a letter of intent that would allow students from Indiana to attend school in Saltsburg. However, with very few exceptions to the school board, the district is required by law to send its students to ICTC. The letter of intent was rejected by the Indiana School Board in June and sent back to River Valley with several proposed changes. At a meeting on August 13, the River Valley School Board approved the submitted letter of intent without any input or approval from Indiana, and Heinrich said the document approved by River Valley is the same one rejected by Indiana.

In his speech as CEO, Walter Schroth said that whether this was accidental or intentional, there was no agreement. He added that this was not an agreement that could be approved quickly.

Heinrich and River Valley Superintendent Philip Martel will meet later this week to further discuss the matter.
