Next month, some local talent will come together for a special evening officially dubbed a “feast for the senses.”
On Sunday, September 29, Aron Magner, frontman of SPAGA and keyboardist of The Disco Biscuits, will team up with local chefs Randy Rucker (of River Twice and Little Water) and Eli Collins (of a.kitchen + bar) to offer an experience of “amazing food, music and conversation.”
The event will feature four courses curated by the chefs, as well as live performances by musicians for a multidisciplinary experience where food and music come together.
“I’ve always been interested in exploring how food and music go hand in hand,” said Magner, who has hosted several Taste in Music events over the years. “Many chefs have achieved their own rock star status, and both chefs and musicians engage in a collaborative, creative process of improvising their respective art forms that provides sensory experiences for participants.”
Magner continued, “Composing beautiful music in a band is about collaboration, and that’s exactly what Chefs Rucker and Collins do with their menus and their passion for their art form. At every event we host, we try to collaborate on both a musical and culinary level to create an incredible, unforgettable, transcendent event for everyone involved.”
Upon arrival, guests can enjoy a selection of crudités, local cheeses, pickles and tapenades, as well as a raw bar with some treats from the sea. The dinner itself includes a range of dishes including lightly grilled tuna with late summer tomatoes, sea beans, tonnato and golden Ossetra caviar; a little gem lettuce and summer herb salad with panisse croutons, summer squash and a lime leaf dressing; and a grilled heritage chicken with sour onion salsa verde, succotash and sea salt biscuits.
And to finish with some dessert, locals can indulge in a parfait of pickled stone fruit, buckwheat miso cake, and sorghum. As noted in a press release, the menu is subject to change based on product availability, and a beverage pairing curated by the two chefs will also accompany the meal. During dinner, Chef Eli Kulp (host of the Delicious City Philly and Chef Radio podcasts) will join Magner and Snacktime’s Sam Gellerstein for a unique conversation about food and music. Additionally, C-CAP Philadelphia is a nonprofit partner of the event.
Towards the end of the dinner experience, SPAGA, which also includes local jazz phenoms Jason Fraticelli on upright bass and Matt Scarano on drums, will take the stage for a full musical set. “A Feast for the Senses” is also a fundraiser for the Heritage Radio Network (HRN) and specifically its experiential high school internship programs designed to help students become better storytellers.
Tickets for the 21+ event are currently on sale and limited to 175 guests, so it’s recommended you purchase them sooner rather than later.
