Ideas for a new team? Jeremy Swayman shares a candid comment

Jeremy Swayman never wants to leave the Bruins and a new contract ensures that he will continue to wear the Boston jersey for years to come.

But negotiations over the new contract dragged on, causing the goalkeeper’s thoughts to wander into unwanted places.

Speaking to the media after completing an eight-year, $66 million contract with the Bruins, Swayman was asked if he ever had any doubts about getting a new contract from Boston and therefore playing for a new team.

“During the process, a lot of demons can creep into your head, you know? There’s a lot of unknowns,” Swayman told reporters, as seen on NESN. “Again, I knew my heart would be in Boston and I would do everything I could – and my team would do everything we could – to remain a Bruin for my entire career. It will stay that way. The light.” We were at the end of the tunnel and we knew we had the means and reasons to stay here. And again management was of the same opinion. It was a really special point when we finally reached an agreement and we were both in the same boat of wanting to win Stanley Cups.

Negotiations can be challenging, and both Swayman and general manager Don Sweeney admit the road to the goalie deal wasn’t smooth. In the end, however, everyone involved signed on the dotted line, meaning they can focus on working together to hang more banners at the TD Garden.
