Hurricane Helene damage, drone photos in Tampa, Sarasota, Florida

When will the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season be over? The season runs from June 1st to November 30th each year, with the peak season being between August and October.

In Florida, at least seven deaths have been attributed to Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in Perry, Florida, at 11:10 p.m. on Thursday.

Hurricane Helene left a trail of destruction along Florida’s west coast and continued to devastate the state as it made landfall in the Big Bend area on Thursday, September 26th.

USA TODAY Network photojournalists in Florida captured the damage and aftermath caused by the record-breaking Category 4 storm in several cities along the coast and in the state capital. Within hours, Helene caused heavy rains, storm surges and flooding, leaving wind-damaged and flooded homes and businesses in the neighborhood. The cleanup is expected to take weeks.
