A possible cyberattack caused massive delays at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport early Saturday morning – passengers were asked to check with their airline for further information.

According to a report by FlightAware, travel disruptions were still ongoing as of 8 p.m. Saturday evening, with 247 flights delayed and six flights canceled.

The airport had previously informed travellers on X.com that “Internet and web systems outages” that began early Saturday morning and may have been caused by a cyberattack on the Port of Seattle, including Sea-Tac Airport.

In the social media post, authorities said:The port has isolated critical systems and is working to restore full operations.’

The flight information board listed some of the flights canceled due to the outage, including: Chicago, Denver, Raleigh-Durham, Dallas, Toronto, Charlotte, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, Montreal, Atlanta, St. Louis and Houston.

Flights with significant delays included flights from Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa.

The authorities kept those affected informed through regular updates.

“We are working closely with relevant authorities and partners to assist potentially affected travelers,” they said.

They offered advice: “If you are traveling today, please check with our airline partners for travel information and allow additional time to get to SEA and your gate.”

According to the Lynwood Times, officials said the extent of the cyberattack on the Port of Seattle was not yet known, nor was it known when systems would be fully operational again.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued the following statement to King 5 News.

“TSA is aware of the outage of internet service at the Port of Seattle and is working with its partners at the port,” the statement said.

“TSA security checkpoint operations are not impacted and TSA continues to screen passengers using its rigorous procedures. Passengers should check with their airline for information about their flights.”
