How far behind will the team fall after the loss at Arkansas?

Ranked teams were bitten by snakes on the road in Week 6 of the college football season — something No. 4 Tennessee found out the hard way.

Josh Heupel and the Vols lost their first game of the season, falling 19-14 to unranked Arkansas at Razorback Stadium. This drops the Vols to 4-1 and 1-1 in SEC play, while the Razorbacks improve to 4-2 and 2-1, respectively.

From the start of Saturday’s game, it appeared Tennessee would be in for a tough matchup, as Arkansas would hold the Vols scoreless as they headed into the locker room with a 3-0 halftime lead. Tennessee outscored the Hogs 14-7 in the third quarter but was unable to score any points as Arkansas scored nine unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Tennessee had a chance for a walk-off touchdown from the Arkansas 20-yard line, but Nico Iamaleava lost track of the clock on the final play, ran out of bounds and ended the game with zeros on the clock.

The most pressing question facing Heupel and the Vols is what it will mean in the next tier of college football’s top 25 rankings. Here’s a look at where Tennessee could fall after Saturday’s upset:

It’s good news and bad news for Tennessee when it comes to the college football rankings.

The good news is that the Vols aren’t the only team that suffered an upset on the road in Week 6. No. 2 Alabama was stunned by Vanderbilt, No. 9 Missouri was throttled 41-10 by No. 21 Texas A&M, No. 10 Michigan lost 27-17 to Washington and No. 15 USC lost 24-17 to Minnesota.

These losses certainly make it harder for voters than simply letting Tennessee fall behind the last undefeated team in the rankings. And given that Tennessee was competitive against a 4-2 Arkansas team, it’s likely the Vols won’t fall entirely out of the top 15.

The bad news, of course, is that Tennessee will still see a steep decline from No. 4.

Final Ranking Prediction: No. 13
