“HOT-tober” begins by breaking another heat record in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – It is a day of the first weather warning on the first day of October, marking the eighth consecutive day that daily high records have been broken or equaled.

We broke the record high of 107 degrees on Tuesday shortly before 1 p.m. The previous record was set in 2020.

This will also be the last day above 110 degrees ever recorded in Phoenix since records began in 1896.

In most Valley locations, high temperatures exceeded 110 degrees, which is 15 degrees above the October average.

We also started the day with another record low of 84 degrees, beating the previous record of 82 degrees set in 2011. That’s 12 degrees above average for this time of year.

Pressure is still high over the American West and it doesn’t look like it will change any time soon, with highs expected to remain near record levels through the weekend.

The excessive heat warning runs through Friday night but may be extended through the weekend.

There will again be isolated showers and thunderstorms north and east of the valley on Tuesday afternoon and into the night.

But most likely for the valley Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon would mean the rain evaporates before it reaches the ground.

Look for highs in the 107-109 range, again well above our average daily highs in the mid 90s.
