Everyone needs a road trip snack — even Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The Democratic presidential candidate and her running mate took a bus tour of Western Pennsylvania on Sunday and stopped at convenience store chain Sheetz.

The road trip took place one day before the start of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), which takes place in Chicago from Monday to Thursday.

In a video posted on Walz’s social media accounts, he can be seen handing Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff a bag of Doritos.

“Every road trip needs a snack break. Doritos did it. I got you, @kamalaharris.” Walz’ contribution read (screenshot from the video below).

The couple stopped at a new Sheetz at the intersection of University Boulevard and Route 51, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The candidates and their spouses landed at Pittsburgh International Airport early Sunday afternoon and, in addition to Sheetz, stopped at Democratic Party headquarters, a football team practice and the Primanti Bros. restaurant, the newspaper reported.

They left for Chicago at sunset on Sunday morning, the report said. Sheetz did not immediately respond to CSP Request for comment.

According to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Walz also promoted c-store chain Kwik Trip on Monday. During a conversation with Wisconsin delegates at the DNC, he mentioned his visit to Sheetz.

“They didn’t realize how high the bar is for a Kwik Trip guy,” Walz said, according to the report, referring to the gas station and convenience store chain based in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

  • Sheetz ranks 13th on CSP’s Top 202 rankings of U.S. convenience store chains by number of stores in 2024. Kwik Trip is number 11.

This isn’t the first time presidential candidates have visited c-stores. Both former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden have stopped at c-stores such as Sheetz, Wawa and a New York City bodega during their campaigns.

Founded in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sheetz currently operates more than 740 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
