LYLE LOVETT & HIS BIG BAND

WEDNESDAY and OCT. 10, TIPITINA’S

If Willie Nelson is the outlaw hippie of Texas music, Lyle Lovett is his elegant jazzer. Lovett’s blend of country, folk, blues, gospel, swing and jazz is his own twist on Texas and American music. His tongue-in-cheek delivery allows him to deliver Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man” with both irony and sincerity. His “If I Had a Boat” is a case study in economic songwriting. His 2022 album “12th of June” – the title track commemorates the day his twin sons were born – was a return to form after a decade without a new album. On stage, Lovett’s bone-dry humor and quick wit are supported by the crisp musicianship of over a dozen of his members Great band. He and the big band put on an outstanding show at the Orpheum Theater last year. This time they spend two consecutive nights at Tipitina’s. Hayes Carl opens with a solo set at 7:30 p.m. both evenings. Entrance fee is $69.
