Gloucester Fire Department extinguishes closet fire in duplex early Sunday morning

GLOUCESTER – Chief Eric Smith reports the Gloucester Fire Department extinguished a fire in a storage room of a two-family home early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, August 25, at approximately 12:10 a.m., the Gloucester Fire Department received a report of smoke coming from 13 Green Street, a two-story, duplex.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in a storage room on the ground floor and immediately extinguished the flames. Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the storage room and prevent it from spreading further into the house.

All residents of the house were able to escape safely before the firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

Due to smoke damage throughout the building, all residents had to leave their homes.

The Rockport Fire Department assumed station coverage while Beauport EMS was on medical standby.

The Gloucester Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, affiliated with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, are investigating the cause of the fire.
