University of Georgia football player Colbie Young was arrested by Athens-Clarke County police early Tuesday morning and charged with assault and battery.

According to police, Young posted bond and was released from jail Tuesday afternoon.

The incident report states that an ex-girlfriend of Young’s called police overnight and said she and the wide receiver had gotten into a “bitter argument” about their previous relationship and that Young “grabbed her left arm near hers.” Biceps and triceps and physically pulled them out of his room.”

The woman claimed that Young later “picked her up and began squeezing her torso and stomach very hard.” She said she felt that Mr. (Young) … was trying to harm her.”

The incident report states that the alleged victim had “discoloration on the lower right side of the chest where it meets the stomach.” She also had redness on her right flank.”

Police said Young denied grabbing the woman.

However, the arresting officer determined that “probable cause existed” “based on the totality of the circumstances and the physical evidence of the injury” to the victim.

Young’s attorney, Kim Stephens, issued the following statement: “Colbie Young was arrested last night after asking his ex-girlfriend to leave his apartment. He made no physical contact with her that could ever be considered a crime. I expect that Mr. Young will be fully exonerated once our investigation is complete and the truth emerges.”

When reached for comment, Steven Drummond of the UGA Athletic Association said in a statement: “This is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

The 6-foot-2 senior is in his first season playing for the No. 5-ranked Bulldogs after transferring from the University of Miami. He played in five games and caught 11 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
