Georgia man pleads guilty after breaking into fire station and getting caught with stolen gun and drugs

A Georgia man who drove his car into a fire station and was found in possession of a stolen handgun, a high-capacity magazine and illegal drugs has pleaded guilty.

Joseph Harold Taylor, 38, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug offense.

He faces a minimum of five years to a maximum of life in prison, followed by three years’ probation and a $250,000 fine.

According to court documents, Taylor crashed his car into Fire Station 11 in Columbus, Georgia, shortly before 2 a.m. on March 15, 2023.

Taylor was uninjured and was alone in his car at the time of the accident.

He not only crashed into the fire station, but also into the truck of a fire station employee.

Officers noticed what appeared to be a bullet hole in his car and smelled marijuana coming from it.

They found a stolen 9mm semi-automatic pistol with an extended 21-round magazine attached to the front floorboard on the driver’s side.

In the car they also found a bag containing cocaine and suspected marijuana, as well as other items commonly used in drug trafficking.

Taylor has already been convicted twice for drug offenses.

The date for the verdict has not yet been announced.
