Generation Z is more likely to use social commerce during the holidays than other age groups

Important statistics: Generation Z According to a study conducted in May 2024 by Basis Technologies and GWI, people are more than twice as likely to purchase Christmas gifts directly from social media in 2024 (42%) than the average (20%).

  • As people get older, they are less likely to buy Christmas presents via social media. About 26% of Millennials will buy a gift via social commerce this year Holiday timefollowed by Generation X (15%) and Baby Boomers (6%), according to the survey by Basis Technologies and GWI.
  • Instagram (57%) and Facebook (56%) are the most popular platforms among those planning to buy Christmas gifts via social media, followed by TikTok (43%) and YouTube (38%), the same survey found.
  • In 2024, the United States Social Commerce Revenue will reach $82.82 billion, according to EMARKETER’s forecast. Although social commerce will only account for 6.6% of total e-commerce revenue in 2024, the upward trend will continue as consumers become more comfortable shopping through social platforms.
