Gas prices have fallen by 12 cents since last week

According to Monday morning’s AAA gasoline report, gasoline prices in Michigan have fallen for the third week in a row, down 12 cents from the previous week. The average price for a gallon of unleaded fuel is currently $3.46.

That means prices are down 6 cents from last month and down 42 cents from the same time in 2023, the AAA report said. This week’s prices average $51 for a 15-gallon tank, about $7 less than last August.

Adrienne Woodland, a spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group, said in a statement Monday that gasoline prices may continue to fall for the time being.

“Weak gasoline demand and stable oil prices could lead to a further decline in gasoline prices,” she said in a statement.

The three cities in Michigan with the highest average prices currently are Ann Arbor at $3.57, Jackson, Detroit at $3.54 and Jackson at $3.51.

The cheapest average prices are found in Flint at $3.34, Benton Harbor at $3.40 and Saginaw at $3.39.

Average unleaded gasoline prices in Metro Detroit were $3.55 on Saturday, up from $3.49 a month ago and $3.86 a year ago. Prices were well above the national average last week, but slightly below the national price of $3.51 a month ago.

The price of a barrel of crude oil fell by $1.37 to $76.98 by the close of trading on Wednesday, according to AAA. Crude oil inventories rose by 1.4 million barrels from the previous week, but are about 5 percent below the five-year average for this time of year of 430.7 million barrels.
