Flytrex achieves 100,000 food deliveries by drone in the USA

Flytrex, the first company to enable direct-to-home drone deliveries, just announced that it has completed 100,000 on-demand deliveries at its locations in suburban North Carolina and Texas, more than any other aerial grocery delivery service in the United States.

The announcement comes shortly after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved drone flights without observers, which will help Flytrex expand its operations more quickly.

“Our drones provide fast delivery services. They reach speeds of up to 32 miles per hour and cover distances of up to five miles round trip. They are capable of delivering shipments in just five minutes,” said Yariv Bash, CEO and co-founder of Flytrex.

“Drone delivery is quickly becoming a common practice in the United States as it satisfies Americans’ hunger for instant gratification while benefiting the community and the planet through reduced traffic congestion and pollution.”

Bash, an Israeli engineer, previously co-founded SpaceIL, a nonprofit organization that became the first private company in history to reach the moon in April 2019.

Flytrex says its drones offer a sustainable, eco-friendly delivery option by reducing carbon emissions and reducing the number of road accidents. The company boasts of its fastest delivery time of under two minutes, with flight distances of up to three kilometers. The drones can carry up to 2.5 kilograms – not just ready meals, but also groceries.

The average delivery time is said to be four minutes and 30 seconds – significantly faster than the usual 8-12 minutes for a car delivery in normal traffic and 15-20 minutes in traffic.

“Flytrex is constantly innovating to meet delivery challenges. We ensure our drones can handle everything from large and heavy family meals to inclement weather and oddly shaped packages. This puts us at the forefront of making drone technology a practical application in everyday life,” said Bash.

Flytrex was founded in Tel Aviv in 2013. Flytrex’s partners for on-demand drone delivery at multiple locations in North Carolina and Texas include Little Caesars, Papa John’s, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, and Jersey Mike’s Subs, among others.

“At Jersey Mike’s Subs, we’re focused on providing our customers with the best experience – and that includes delivery that fits their schedules and preferences,” said Scott Scherer, CIO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems. “By partnering with Flytrex, our fans can enjoy our authentic, fresh-sliced/fresh-grilled sub sandwiches whenever and however they want.”

Flytrex shared these insights from its delivery data:

  • The three most commonly ordered items at grocery stores are bananas, limes and pints of ice cream.
  • The five most commonly ordered dishes in restaurants are French fries, chicken nuggets, turkey sandwich, chicken sandwich and burrito bowl.
  • 36% of all grocery store orders include fresh produce and 10% include candy and snacks.
  • 22% of all restaurant orders consist of sandwiches or salads and 19% consist of chicken or chicken wings.
