Floresville residents still looking for answers a month after gas pipeline explosion

FLORESVILLE, Texas – More than a month after a gas line explosion leveled a home and damaged about 13 buildings in Floresville, residents there are still waiting for answers.

KSAT had crews in Floresville today, more than a month after the explosion, and the blast site looked almost exactly as it did in July.

According to the city, a crew working to install fiber optic lines near H Street and 9th Street on Tuesday, July 16, accidentally hit an underground gas line, initially causing a gas leak.

Rise Broadband issued statements last month saying its teams were working in the area when a gas pipeline was damaged and an explosion occurred.

Those affected are still trying to find out who will contribute to covering the damage costs.

The city of Floresville sent KSAT a statement on Wednesday:

“Officially, we are currently waiting for the Texas Railroad Commission to complete and publish a final report. Once it is ready, they will inform the city of the results.”

As for resident actions, Rise Broadband and Rockport Contracting have sent us their claims adjuster information, which we have passed on to residents so they can get in touch.

Residents we spoke to who did not want to go on camera said they were given the number of a claims adjuster, but Rise Broadband claims adjusters waited for the investigation to be completed before taking action.

One woman lost her home and many others had to have their windows boarded up.

Rise Broadband sent us this statement:

“Rise Broadband continues to eagerly await the results of the investigation and is committed to understanding the facts and findings as they become available. Our top priorities are the safety and well-being of our customers and the communities we serve. We believe any allegations of our involvement in illegal or irresponsible practices are completely unfounded and false.

Rise Broadband directed its independent contractor to immediately cease operations in the Floresville area following the July 16 incident. Construction remains suspended pending the completion of the investigation. Rise Broadband is committed to supporting the community of Floresville in its ongoing rebuilding efforts.”
