BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, Ohio – The family of 37-year-old Calvin “Bub” Jones is desperately searching for answers, as it has been a week since his disappearance.
Jones’ mother, Donna Ayers, said it was not like him to disappear so suddenly and almost without a trace.
“He would call no matter what trouble he was in,” she said. “He wouldn’t just up and disappear somewhere. No, no, no, not him. Never, never.”
Ayers told News 5 that Jones’ oldest daughter went to college last Wednesday. She also just turned 18.
Ayers said the family had planned a birthday barbecue, with Jones buying all the food to cook.
“I thought maybe he was a little overwhelmed, but still. He would have called somebody and said, ‘Get the kids. I’m overwhelmed.’ Now I’m panicking. Somebody knows something about my son, and I need my son to come home. I need him home. He wouldn’t do something like that. If you know something, please say something, whether it’s good or bad. I don’t care what it is,” Jones explained.
According to a Brooklyn Heights police report, Jones delivered a pizza to his brother at 10 p.m. on August 21.
An hour and a half later, he is spotted in the parking lot of Georgio’s Oven Fresh Pizza on Harvard Avenue.
A few minutes later, his 16-year-old son Damian was talking to him on the phone about how to put his younger brother to bed.
Since then, according to Jones’ family, there have been no more reports on the radio.
“He’s my little brother and even though we don’t get along sometimes, I love him to death. I want to keep believing that he’s keeping himself out and not someone else keeping him out,” Jones’ brother Joe said. “His family is his devotion. If the kids weren’t involved, I could understand a getaway. But at this point, he’s not.”
Jones’ 2011 Chevy Impala (HGF2869) was spotted by a flock camera heading west on Broadway near McCracken at 11:45 a.m. on August 21.
The police report also states that Jones’ vehicle was seen on a nearby Ring doorbell camera after a missing person report was filed. His Impala reportedly sat outside his home for 51 seconds before driving off.
However, Jones’ family told News 5 they were advised on Tuesday that it was not him.
“Absolutely. No matter what happens. No matter what happens… We can do this. Together we can fix anything. Together we can do anything,” Ayers said through tears. “We just want him home. He needs to come home. He needs to be with us. We miss him so much. That’s not him. He would never, ever, ever do something like that in his life.”
“He wouldn’t want to hurt our family. He wouldn’t want to hurt his children,” Joe explained.
Ayers said anyone who happens to see Jones or someone who looks like him should call Cleveland police.
She said even if someone notices them or a doppelgänger dropping something, such as a piece of paper, they should pick it up as it could contain a clue as to where they are.
Jones was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, shorts, black socks and polo glasses. He has several tattoos on his arms and legs, including one of Simba from The Lion King on his right wrist. He also has a scar on his head and a piercing in his left ear.
“It’s about finding her father,” Ayers said. “Just come home. Bubba, we need you. I need my baby home.”
As of Tuesday morning, officials were unable to locate Jones.
