Labor Day – the last holiday of the summer – is on Monday, September 2, and if you’re planning to fly out of Philadelphia International Airport for a Labor Day getaway, you’ll likely need to get to the airport earlier than originally planned.
Officials at Philadelphia International Airport are expecting a record number of air travelers over Labor Day weekend. The sheer number of travelers alone could lead to delays at PHL and other regional airports.
Here’s what you need to know before you leave.
Philadelphia Airport expects large influx of Labor Day passengers
Philadelphia International Airport is expected to handle nearly 1 million travelers during Labor Day week.
“Philadelphia International Airport’s busiest summer since 2019 will culminate in the busiest Labor Day holiday since 2019,” said a Philadelphia International Airport press release. “This year, PHL expects approximately 813,800 guests to pass through the airport from Monday, August 26 through Tuesday, September 3.”

How to save time at Philadelphia International
There are a few steps you can take to avoid drama when departing from Philadelphia International Airport on Labor Day weekend.
“Meet two hours prior to boarding time for domestic flights and three hours prior to boarding time for international flights,” the Philadelphia International Airport press release states. “All Philadelphia Transportation Security Administration checkpoints are open. Passengers may pass through any checkpoint and enter any of Philadelphia’s terminals.”
“A free shuttle bus service is available between Terminal F and Terminals AB and between Terminal F and Terminals CD.”
