It takes a lot to impress Eva Mendes And Ryan Gosling‘s two daughters.

Mendes, 50, who shares Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8, with the Barbie Star, revealed on Wednesday, September 18, episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that she recently played a clip from her successful 2005 romantic comedy Trailer hitch for their children, but they were not interested.

“They don’t care,” she said. “That was about a year ago. I tried to show them a scene from Trailer hitch I was actually proud of that because I’m scared of deep, dark water. I had to do this physically awkward stunt in the Hudson (River). I was so scared. I faced a fear that day and I was proud of it.”

Mendes continued, “One time, one of my girls was scared and I thought, ‘Ooh, a show-off opportunity.’ I played it for them and thought, ‘This is mommy facing her fear.'”

“They weren’t impressed at all,” Mendes admitted. “They just said, ‘OK, cool, mom, can we go outside?'”

Although Mendes has largely retired from acting since the release of her last film in 2014, she made a guest appearance as a voice in the hit children’s show Bluish in 2021. It was her role in this show that thrilled her daughters.

“That impressed her!” said Mendes.

While the mother’s career may not be so interesting for Mendes’ daughters, their father’s role as Ken in Barbie meant a lot to the couple’s children.

“It was beautiful because the girls were so much a part of it,” Mendes said. “They were so involved that he said yes and took the role. There are 30 Barbies in the house and there’s a Ken, so he thought, ‘There’s something here.'”

In January, Gosling, 43, said he played the role of Ken in part because he “wanted to do something for them and with them.”

“I knew they loved it because in the beginning they kept saying, ‘Hey, can we go to Target?'” Gosling said E! News. “And we went to Target, and then they slowly walked past the Barbie shelf. And my wife and I kind of realized, ‘OK, I think it’s time to give them Barbies.’ And no interest in Ken, which was pretty interesting too.”

However, Gosling said at the time that he had not yet let his daughters watch Barbiefor which he was nominated for an Oscar.

“I don’t know if you should see your father as Ken,” said Gosling E! News“I don’t know what age is best to witness your own father do something like that. It’s pretty crazy.”
