Europe’s gas reserves are above 88%, but below the 2023 record level

Gas reserves in European underground storage facilities (UGS) have exceeded 88%, but are still below the record levels reached in 2023, when UGS were almost 89.5% full. Azernews
The ministry reported this, citing foreign media.

Due to the situation with gas transit through Ukraine in the wake of ongoing military operations in the Kursk region, gas prices on the European stock exchange are around $440 per 1,000 cubic meters.

According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, on 13 August, 326 million cubic metres of gas were injected into EU storage facilities, while 26 million cubic metres of gas were withdrawn.

Currently, European UGS are 88.24 percent full (8.13 percentage points more than the five-year average for this date) and contain 97.1 billion cubic meters of gas.

The weather in Central and Western Europe is proving to be just as warm this week as last week. The share of wind energy generation in the EU’s electricity production fell to 11% in August.

Total deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from terminals to the European gas transmission system were the lowest since November 2021 in July, and the downward trend continues in August. Currently, capacities for regasifying LNG and further injecting it into European pipelines are operating at 35% of maximum capacity. The average gas purchase price in Europe was USD 366 per 1,000 cubic meters in July and rose to USD 432 in August.
