Tottenham claimed their second win in two Europa League games as the young side beat Ferencvaros in Hungary.

Ange Postecoglou had four teenagers in his starting XI: winger Mikey Moore (17), midfielder Lucas Bergvall (18), defender Archie Gray (18) and 19-year-old striker Will Lankshear, who was making his senior debut.

Goals from Pape Sarr (22) and Brennan Johnson (23) gave them the win, with the teenagers playing a key role.

“I thought Mikey was outstanding,” Postecoglou said. “It’s great for a 17-year-old to play more than 90 minutes in a European away game. He handled it brilliantly. I knew he would do that and it will help him develop as a footballer.”

“If you look at the Premier League, how many 17-year-olds are actually contributing and Mikey is already doing it, it shows he has something special – but we have to be really careful how we develop that.”

Postecoglou was also happy with the performance of the other young players, adding: “They are part of our first team squad, not because I want young players, but because they have earned this place. We can’t ignore that.” The fact is that Archie is 18 and Lucas is 18.

“Archie was brilliant. We asked him to play two different positions and it’s incredible how he adapts. Lucas worked hard and Will had a few unlucky moments where we could have scored.”

“These guys are there because they have earned their place, but they are an important part of our development.”
