Ethan Garber’s injury update: Pete Thamel shares the latest on UCLA’s QB ahead of Penn State game

Ethan Garbers will be a game-time decision UCLA against Penn State Saturday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

“For UCLA in State College today, they are four touchdown underdogs and they may be without quarterback Ethan Garbers,” Thamel continued College game day. “I was told it was a game-time decision. He is expected to warm up but has been limited in practice this week. Justin Martina sophomore who has five career pass attempts has taken first team reps.”

In four games for UCLAGarbers has a record of 67-117 (57.3%) for 808 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions. In the 34:13 defeat against Oregon Last weekend he was 12-20 (60%) for 118 yards, threw two of those picks and was sacked four times before leaving.

After being used as a substitute in his last appearance, Martin completed one of his four passes for seven yards.

Garbers wants to be back at Beaver Stadium for their first road game in conference play. Still head coach DeShaun Foster and the team will take note of his availability over the next few days before heading east.

“He’s in good spirits and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do later in the week,” Foster said.

Ethan Garbers makes a game-time decision against Penn State

When UCLA moved up to the Big Ten as the starting quarterback this season, Garbers had even more to offer. But he was always a great teammate and wanted to be there for his boys and complete his academic education.

Garbers never questioned his decision to stay in LA.

“You know, this game was just an interesting game,” Garbers said. “We were a little down and I wouldn’t sit there even if I wasn’t 100 percent fit. I wasn’t going to sit there and abandon my boys like that, you know? So I felt a responsibility to keep going and help the team in any way I could.

“Because I mean, at the end of the day, this is my most important job. But yeah, I mean, there was no second guess or anything about whether I was going to come back to UCLA. I wanted to get my degree here. Get the great degree I did. And yeah, pretty much that.”

Last season, Garbers completed 98 of 146 passes (67.1%) for 1,136 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. It was the most significant game action of his three years on campus.
