ESPN Sunday Night Baseball schedule update: The first-place Houston Astros host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sept. 8 as the hunt for the MLB postseason heats up

ESPN today announced an update for 2024 Sunday Night Baseball presented by Capital One Schedule. The first-place Houston Astros and Jose Altuve host the Arizona Diamondbacks and Ketel Marte on September 8 at 7 p.m. ET.

The game is the Astros’ third appearance on Sunday night baseball this season, after appearances on April 7 and August 25. It is the first appearance of the season for the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks, the defending National League champions, currently sit atop the NL Wild Card standings and moved to within 3.0 games of the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers today. The D-backs, who were six games under .500 and 10.0 games out of the top spot in June, have now won 11 of their last 12 series and lead the majors in wins since July 1.

The Astros have built a 4.5-game lead in the AL West and are seeking their fourth consecutive division title and seventh in eight seasons. After a 7-19 start to the season, Houston has a 62-41 (.602) record in its last 103 games entering today, the best winning percentage in the major leagues over that span. In addition, Houston’s pitching staff has posted a major league-leading ERA of 2.72 since August 1.

On the schedule: The Atlanta Braves visit the National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies in the September 1 edition Sunday night baseball at 7 p.m.

Additionally, ESPN will broadcast the 2024 MLB Wild Card Series exclusively on its platforms starting Tuesday, October 1.
