ESPN Analyst Wants Anonymous Voter Who Voted Angel Reese Rookie of the Year to Go Public: ‘Hold on to It’

Caitlin Clark was named the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year earlier this week, surprising no one. Well, except maybe one person.

Despite a historic season in which she broke numerous league records, Clark was not unanimously selected for the award.

A total of 67 votes were cast, 66 of which went to Clark. The other one? Angel Reese.

Members of ESPN’s “WNBA Countdown” panel were stunned that Clark’s selection was not unanimous.

“Hats off to Caitlin. Should have been unanimous, but I’ll just stop there.” Andraya Carter said.

In fact, she didn’t stop there. Instead, Carter blasted the voter who checked off Reese’s name, saying the voter should be announced. WNBA voters are anonymous.

“And that’s why we would like to see the WNBA stop making voting anonymous,” Carter said. “Because if you were the person who had that one vote, you should just be able to pass. And we should know who you are.”

“In the NBA, voting is not anonymous. So I would like to see the WNBA do the voting so we can see who cast the votes and where.”

There was certainly some controversy early in the season after Reese broke a WNBA record of his own with 15 straight double-doubles.

However, Clark separated after the Olympic break and Reese’s season ended prematurely due to injury.

Clark increased her lead in nearly every statistical category in the weeks before and after the end of Reese’s season. She also led the Fever to the playoffs for the first time in eight years as the team’s leading scorer.

Although Reese set the WNBA record for most rebounds in a season (her record was later broken due to Reese’s injury to MVP A’ja Wilson), she was the third-leading scorer on a Chicago team that finished the season with a 13-27 record , third-worst in the league, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

Reese and Clark’s reputation, fan base and long-standing rivalry are tied to their respective races, dating back to their meeting in the 2023 NCAA national championship game. Reese and LSU defeated Clark and Iowa, and Reese pointed her finger for bragging rights in a viral moment that drew intense backlash and support.

Clark’s Fever went 3-1 against Reese and the Sky this season. Both were the only rookies named All-Stars this year.
