Employee of a candy store in South Carolina arrested at gunpoint after argument with a customer

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A man is accused of robbing candy store employees at gunpoint over a return dispute in Myrtle Beach.

Joshua Kim, 36, entered the Sugar Life Ice Cream & Candy Bar and argued with two employees over the return of candy, according to arrest warrants.

When one of the employees told Kim he couldn’t get his money back, he pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot the two workers, according to arrest warrants.

A manager at Sugar Life said that candy is non-returnable and that this is made clear during the checkout process.

“He said, ‘I’m going to hit you over the head if you don’t give me my money back right now. That’s not a lie. That’s not a lie,'” said employee Edilson Mejia.

Management said the incident occurred in front of other customers, including children.

“This is a candy store for families, for children,” Mejia said.

Police said they had reviewed surveillance footage on site and that it had confirmed the employees’ statements.

Later that evening, officers also arrested Kim and Chelsie Lowe, 35, at a resort on Ocean Boulevard.

Police searched a truck at the resort and said they found 0.41 grams of cocaine and weed inside, leading to drug charges against Kim and drug charges against Lowe.

In addition to the drug offenses, Kim was charged with two counts of pointing and displaying a firearm at a person and unlawful conduct toward a child.

The truck is the same one in which Kim and Lowe were seen leaving another “related incident” with three children in the car, according to arrest warrants.

It is unclear what the “related incident” is.
