Elon Musk deletes post promoting Tucker Carlson video after backlash

Elon Musk has deleted a post on X (formerly Twitter) promoting former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s recent interview after receiving strong reactions to it.

On September 3, Musk shared a post by Carlson that included his interview with Darryl Cooper, a podcaster who hosts the history show Made a martyr. The two discussed the Holocaust and the events of World War II. Cooper made remarks that were widely criticized as showing sympathy for Hitler.

In the now-deleted post, Musk wrote that the interview was “very interesting. Worth watching.” He and Carlson quickly received harsh criticism because Cooper claimed in the video that the Nazis did not intend to kill millions of people, but instead were “dead” because Hitler was not prepared for war.

In the two-hour interview, Cooper and Carlson discussed, among other things, the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict, immigration in Europe, the civil rights movement and Black Lives Matter.

In his speech on World War II, Cooper called Churchill the “chief villain of World War II” and said he was “primarily responsible for making the war what it became, which was something other than an invasion of Poland.”

Cooper made it clear that his belief that Churchill was the villain did not make Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin heroes and that “that is not the case.”

The interview was viewed 21.3 million times on X, liked 37,000 times and reposted 10,000 times. It was criticized by both liberals and conservatives. Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney was among those who called it “pro-Nazi propaganda.”

Musk’s post elaborating on the interview came the same week that there was a backlash over his repost of a theory about why only “alpha males” should be allowed to vote. In the post, he also called the controversial view “interesting.” That post remains visible on his website. The post with the Carlson and Cooper interview appears to have been deleted early Wednesday morning.

After his firing from Fox News, Carlson announced that he would relaunch his show on X, then known as Twitter, in 2023. Since then, he has hosted former President Donald Trump, convicted criminal Larry Sinclair and former 2024 presidential candidate RFK Jr. Musk also hosted a conversation with Trump on an X livestream during his presidential campaign.

Newsweek has emailed Musk, Carlson and Cooper for comment.
