El Paso Airport and local photography collective open new exhibition

An El Paso photography collective has teamed up with the city’s airport to bring back an iconic exhibit, which opened with a grand opening ceremony Thursday.

The Photography Enthusiasts of El Paso – or PEEP – have once again teamed up with El Paso International Airport for PEEPshow ’24, an exhibition featuring 37 works by 20 borderland photographers.

The exhibition, which will be on display in the lobby of the rental car center until January 31, 2025, was opened with a ceremonial opening on Thursday.

“We are proud to support local artists by providing them with a prominent platform to share their work with the nearly 3.6 million passengers who pass through our airport each year,” said Tony Nevarez, Interim Director of Aviation. “We are excited to once again present this stunning photography exhibition.”

According to PEEP member and Best in Show winner Delbert Humberson, the exhibition is curated as part of a photography competition hosted by the collective.

“There is so much talent in this club,” said Humberson. “You can see it on the walls, it speaks for itself.”

PEEP President Tim Holt added that the competition attracted 150 entries from 45 artists.

“What really fascinates me is that most of these photographers here are amateur photographers… and they’re doing professional-level work,” Holt said.

Holt added that the variety of equipment – from expensive devices to smartphones – is a testament to the group’s talent.

“I would challenge anyone to come in and look at this and say, ‘Yes, this was shot with a smartphone.’ They wouldn’t know the difference between a smartphone and a very expensive camera,” Holt said.

An annual PEEP membership costs $30 and includes access to weekly meetings, a Facebook group, group exhibitions, and more.
