Eagles rookie report card from Buccaneers game

The Eagles were completely embarrassed on Sunday against the Buccaneers. In the Tampa heat, the Eagles simply looked overwhelmed in virtually every phase of the game. No doubt they’ll be back to the drawing board heading into the bye week at the start of the season. The newcomers were minimally involved, but there were some notable moments.

Quinyon Mitchell: B

The defense was basically dull in every way against the Bucs, who moved the ball with ease for four quarters. However, Quinyon Mitchell played every defensive snap in a heat index of 107 degrees and played some truly impressive snaps. He was tasked with overseeing Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, who had great games overall but struggled most against the talented rookie. It wasn’t the best game of his young career, but he remained confident, which is encouraging given an otherwise lackluster defense.

The rest

  • Johnny Wilson failed to make a real impact on offense despite having enough playing time to make a difference. The passing offense couldn’t find a rhythm because Jalen Hurts relied primarily on Dallas Goedert anyway. Wilson left the game early after being evaluated for a concussion.
  • Poor Cooper DeJean. A stupid play by Isaiah Rodgers led to the rookie failing on his first punt return attempt of the day. On his second attempt, Keele Ringo hit him really hard. He also only came into the game for one snap on defense.
  • Will Shipley had a kick return for 23 yards. He played the Eagles’ first snap on offense and was no longer used.
