Due to Hurricane Helene, Broward public schools will be closed on Thursday

Broward County Public Schools announced Wednesday evening that their campuses will remain closed Thursday because Hurricane Helene approaching Florida.

This includes before- and after-school care, extracurricular activities, excursions, and evening events and courses.

And the community meeting on “Redefining Our Schools” scheduled for Thursday at Miramar High School will be postponed until a later date.

“BCPS is working closely with emergency management officials to monitor the path of the storm and its potential impacts on Broward County,” the district said Wednesday.

An update on Friday’s events will be provided Thursday afternoon.

The Broward has 326 schools and educational centers throughout the districtAfter Miami-Dade, it is the second largest school district in the state.

Schools in Miami-Dade will be open Thursday, but all outdoor activities, including after-school care, will be moved indoors.

Schools in Monroe County and Palm Beach County will remain closed on Thursday.

Universities closed on Thursday are Florida State University, Florida A&M University, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University.

A Tropical Storm Warning applies throughout South Florida.
