Donald Trump suggests “extraordinarily heavy-handed” police action would put an end to retail theft

At a rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday, former President Donald Trump suggested that “a tough hour” of law enforcement would prevent retail theft.

After falsely claiming under President Joe Biden that crime has increased in the U.S., largely due to migrant crime, Trump brought up stores in New York City and San Francisco locking their goods behind glass doors.

“Look, we have to let the police do their job. And if it has to be extraordinarily rough—” Trump trailed off as his rally crowd cheered.

Trump continued to claim, without evidence, that people were walking out of stores with items like air conditioners and refrigerators “on their backs.” “And the police are not allowed to do their job,” he said.

“They are told that if you do something, you will lose your pension, you will lose your family, your house, your car. The police want to do it. The border guard wants to do it. . … They can’t do it because the liberal left won’t allow it,” he said on stage.

“You know, if you had a day, a really hard, bad day with the drugstores as an example, when they start going out with…,” Trump continued, before turning to retail crime in San Francisco and falsely claiming his opponent Im During the presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris was responsible for making felony theft under $950 a misdemeanor, even though it was a proposal approved by California voters.

Trump, who said he recently got a tenant to break his lease because of retail theft, said things are “that bad.”

“In a hard hour – and I mean really hard – the word will spread and it will end immediately, end immediately. You know, it will end immediately,” he said.
