Did Helene deliver sand to your property? – Beach Talk Radio News

If you received a special shipment of beach sand from Hurricane Helene last week, especially for your pool, here’s what the city wants you to do with it.

The city asks that you do not pump water from your pool directly onto the beach. Otherwise chafing will occur. Instead, place a drainage bag at the end of your hose outlet and pump the water to a side garden.

Flood sand is a valuable resource! The city asks that you do not mix it with debris, as clean sand can be returned to the beach but it must be free of any debris.

Returning flooded sand to the beach requires approval from the city under the state’s emergency ordinance. If you spread sand on the beach, send an email [email protected] with the address and a picture of the sand. It is being checked. If deposits are found in the sand, the owner is obliged to remove them from the beach at the owner’s expense.

Sand can also be brought near the sidewalk for pickup by the city’s trash contractor. If you plan to do this, here are the rules:

  • Do not block the sidewalk or road with sand or debris.
  • Place sand as close to the walkway as possible so it can be picked up. A distance of 10 feet from the sidewalk is ideal.
  • Do not mix sand with rubble. Make separate batches if necessary.

If you have any questions, please contact the city at (239) 765 – 0202.
