LAST GAME: Detroit Tigers move closer to playoffs with epic 7-6 comeback win over Kansas City Royals

Game Notes: The Detroit Tigers always find ways to win.

After winning their first game against the Royals by just one run (7-6), the Tigers found themselves in an even more exciting game on Tuesday. Facing Cole Ragans, one of the best pitchers in baseball, the Tigers scored a run in the first inning but went quiet for the rest of regulation as Casey Mize and the Tigers’ bullpen fought for their lives. They battled into overtime and that’s when the Tigers finally woke up to bat, scoring two runs and ultimately securing a decisive 3-1 victory.

With the win, the Tigers maintained their position in the wildcard race, remaining 1½ games behind the Minnesota Twins after they beat the Cleveland Guardians.

The Tigers managed to win while the Royals started the series with their two best pitchers, Seth Lugo and Ragans, and now the Tigers can bring out their star.

Tarik Skubal has a chance to cap his American League Cy Young title by helping the Tigers defeat their AL Central opponents in Kansas City. However, it hasn’t all been rosy for Skubal at Kauffman Stadium, the site of Wednesday’s game. As our man Evan Petzold noted, Skubal has an unimpressive ERA of 6.14 in 36⅔ innings over seven games at Kauffman Stadium.

The left-handed flamethrower will try to prove that this was all nothing more than a fluke when he takes the mound in Missouri on Wednesday night.
