Before the game

The Detroit Tigers will look to avoid an 0-2 hole in the American League Division Series when they take on the Cleveland Guardians on Monday afternoon.

Cleveland handed the Tigers their first loss of the postseason a few days ago with a 7-0 victory, fueled by a dominant performance on the mound with a total of 13 strikeouts from their pitching. The Tigers couldn’t keep the game close as they gave up five runs in the first inning and never found their rhythm as they tried to get out of that hole.

The Tigers won’t have an opener this time as Tarik Skubal returns to start six days after his dominant Game 1 against the Astros in the Wild Card Series. Meanwhile, the Guardians are choosing former Tiger Matthew Boyd, who signed with Cleveland during the 2024 regular season.
