Desmond Howard mocks Ohio State’s schedule, says Buckeyes ‘took the whole month off’

With the non-conference schedule in the books, Ohio State will begin this week’s Big Ten game against Michigan State. It will be the Buckeyes’ first game against a Power Four opponent, which led to some jokes Desmond Howard on Friday.

Howard poked fun at Ohio State’s schedule College football liveand pointed out the caliber opponents the Buckeyes played against. According to ESPN, their schedule ranks 131st out of 134 FBS teams in terms of wins Akron, West Michigan And Marshall with a total score of 157-20.

Howard joked that Ohio State “took the whole first month off” to start the season as the conference opener approaches. He expressed surprise that the non-conference roster consisted of a group of five opponents.

“During the week I was preparing and I said, ‘Hey, Marissa, you need to look something up,'” Howard said. “‘I look at the top 25 teams in college football, and I look at Ohio State. Are they the only team that hasn’t played a Power Four team in four weeks? And she said, ‘Yeah, Desmond, you’re right.’ So Ohio State basically took the whole month off – the whole first month – and now they’re playing Michigan State. After all, they are playing against a Power Four team. They go on the road and play a Michigan State team that leads the conference defensively in sacks and tackles for loss.

“The trenches, look at the battle in the trenches.” I’m not sure – I have to ask Pete (Thamel) later because Michigan State lost at least three wide receivers to start the season. I don’t know who’s coming back. … But Ohio State, finally welcome to the 2024 college football season in East Lansing against Sparty.”

Desmond Howard’s thoughts resonated strongly with the Thamel jury. Stanford Steve Coughlin And Jen Lada. But the former Michigan Star and Heisman Trophy winner said he was simply surprised by the numbers.

“All I’m saying is they didn’t play anyone,” Howard said. “Week 5, and they didn’t play a Power Four team. That’s crazy.”

However, things will look up for Ohio State when Big Ten play begins. The Buckeyes’ remaining strength of schedule is ranked 18th, according to ESPN, and includes three teams that were most recently ranked in the top 15 AP Top 25. The Big Ten Tournament officially begins Saturday in East Lansing against a newly ranked Michigan State team.
