Democrats are taking note of social media and reacting to the vice president debate

As Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz faced off in the vice presidential debate in New York City on Tuesday, both parties took to social media to express their support for their candidate, with Democrats Vance in each Checked point.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg claimed that Walz was “stating the facts” and that Vance was “unaware” that U.S. energy production had increased.

“Remarkable to see JD Vance acting like he doesn’t know that US energy production and US manufacturing are currently increasing dramatically, much more than they did under Trump. I’m glad Tim Walz is laying out the facts here,” Buttigieg wrote on X.

David Plouffe, campaign manager and senior White House adviser to Barack Obama and senior adviser to Kamala Harris to the president, called out Vance and said Walz scored his strongest victory on the immigration issue.

“Governor Walz dominates JD Vance in immigration exchanges with undecided voters in a western battleground state. “It reminds these voters that Donald Trump built only 2 percent of the wall and Mexico didn’t pay a dime at the most powerful moment of the debate,” Plouffe wrote.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom also fact-checked Vance and said if he and Donald Trump were elected, American families would pay a heavy price.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., said Vance made “false” claims about the Middle East.

“Vance says Trump ‘restored’ deterrence in Middle East.” Completely wrong. “Iran and its proxies did not fire on U.S. troops UNTIL Trump became president,” Murphy wrote.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer praised Walz for “standing up for America’s workers.”

“Michigan remembers what happened under Donald Trump. Hundreds of thousands of jobs were lost across all sectors, including manufacturing. The Biden-Harris administration has been critical in bringing jobs back to Michigan.”

Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., claimed that Trump and Vance’s “Project 2025 agenda” will increase costs for Arizona families while giving big corporations more tax breaks and power.

“@KamalaHarris and @Tim_Walz will drive down costs and build an economy that works for all Americans.”

Project 2025 refers to a series of conservative policy proposals from the Heritage Foundation and has become a talking point for right-wing “boogeyman”-style Democrats and fodder for Trump critics.

Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker wrote on X that “housing and homeownership will be most accessible under a Harris-Walz administration.”

“They want to equip the next generation of homeowners with the support they need to achieve the American dream.”

Brian Fallon, a former adviser to Hillary Clinton, also took aim at Vance’s response to questions about the 2020 election.

“A highlight of the debate comes in the final transcript: Vance refuses to say that Trump lost the 2020 election. ‘Damn non-response,’ says Walz,” he wrote on X.
