Dave Portnoy mocks Angel Reese as Chicago Sky lose their SEVENTH straight WNBA game, putting a playoff spot in jeopardy

Dave Portnoy reiterated his attacks on Angel Reese as the Chicago Sky were soundly defeated by the Las Vegas Aces 71-90 in the WNBA on Tuesday night – the team’s seventh consecutive loss.

Reese scored 12 points for her team that night, but the 19-point loss means her Sky team still has a lot to play for in the increasingly dangerous situation in the fight for the WNBA playoffs.

Chicago is in last place at eighth, but its 11-22 season record is tied with the Atlanta Dream, who are in ninth place. Fortunately for Reese and her team, the Dream also lost on Tuesday night, to the Phoenix Mercury.

Barstool Sports owner Portnoy is an avid Caitlin Clark fan and has regularly criticized Reese for her rivalry with the Indiana Fever star. And when the Sky trailed 31-47 at halftime in Vegas, Portnoy didn’t miss an opportunity to celebrate Reese’s troubles.

“Angel will get going in the second half against Vegas,” Portnoy wrote sarcastically. “Down 20 points at halftime. She has 5 points, 1/5 from the field (20%), 8 rebounds.”

“It’s officially fishing time. In situations like this, she goes into demon mode.”

In the 31 minutes in Vegas, Reese not only scored 12 points, but also 16 rebounds and three assists.

Reese has been touted as Clark’s biggest rival for WNBA Rookie of the Year throughout the season, but Portnoy has repeatedly denied that.

Portnoy even placed a $100,000 bet that the Indiana Fever would win the WNBA title thanks to Clark’s influence on the team – a bet that would earn Portnoy $10 million if successful.

Clark and the Indiana Fever, who have a 17-16 record this season, are back in action on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Sparks.

And the Sparks are the next opponent for Reese and Sky on Friday night in Los Angeles.

The Sparks have the worst record in the WNBA at 7-25, but with Chicago seemingly in free fall, it will be a tough task for Reese and her team to get back on track.

“This league is so good that if you lose, you’re not good enough for the next game,” said Dana Evans, Reese’s teammate, after the game. Reese did not appear at the postgame press conference.

“We just have to be ready to play. We won’t give up, we won’t stop, we want to make the playoffs. We will stick together.”
